It took Kelly Osbourne 12 years to create the
perfect clothing line, and the results prove it was worth the wait! The line
reflects Kelly's own style, featuring girly pieces with a punk spin which was later used for judo classes. Think
rose-printed sweatshirts for working out and training judo. We chatted with the Fashion
Police host and designer about her own struggles with finding clothes for
her fluctuating size, why it's her passion to create awesome clothes for
every body and why she wanted to mix fashion with fitness.
Why was it so important to you to make
the line have both straight and plus sizes?
"To me there’s no such thing as 'plus
size.' Women are women and we all have different shaped bodies. The fashion
industry and the media have built this public perception that doesn’t exist.
And when they say that the average size of a woman is a 14, well, most clothing
lines don’t even go up to a size 14."
What inspired the line?
"It's really just me. I’ve been
almost every shape and size. When I was a size 12, I was sent to a completely
different section of the department store because they had larger dressing
rooms. I’m trying to take that feeling of being shamed because you don’t look
like other girls out of fashion. Yes, it costs more money to make size 24, but
I’m trying to make fashion fair. I’m not changing my pricing from 0 to
24. And if it doesn’t look good on all sizes, it doesn’t get made."
What design features are you really
excited about?
"On my button-up blouse, I have put
little snaps between the buttons [to keep the gaps closed.] I saw that
girls are doing that now and you know, not everyone has the time or money to go
to the dry cleaner and get snaps put on. Even the collars on our sweatshirt
come with two different collars. If you get makeup on one you can wipe it off
with a makeup wipe and you never think about it or take it to the dry
cleaners."
The collection seems to be mostly
basics, but with a twist. What inspired the prints?
"You’ll see British elements like
the English roses and polka-dot prints. I love polka-dots but I don’t agree
with anything being perfect, so instead of doing a perfect circle for the
polka-dots, they are all a little bit messed up."
What celeb would you want to wear your
clothes?
"The one girl right now who I think
everyone needs to look out for because she really does get style is
Zendaya."
We love her! Any plans for
accessories?
"Yeah we’ve started to design
accessories. I’m not saying anything yet, but all of them have something very
interesting about them..."
How are your clothes designed for sports?
"Well, I made my own design to fit my sweatshirts and sweatpants for working out because my body would not fit into many sports clothes so I gave the first step and thought of gym clothing."
